............Mitrovica, Kosovo - October, 2005 -- The cameras are rolling! After flying from Seattle, to Dallas, to Orlando, to Miami, back to Dallas, to London, to Kosovo and having two boxes of gear mistakenly sent by the airlines to Peru, Vision FilmWorks has arrived to the divided city of Mitrovica - where consistent electricity, running water, and job security are casualties of war. At the moment we are without electricity, which is a daily affair, but regardless of the energy crisis, we have an ample supply of batteries that keep our computers running and our cameras rolling. This week we had the opportunity to visit one of the richest mines in the world, Trepca. Here, gold and an array of other valuable metals rest several feet below the streets, yet many people in this town are living as refugees. The local theater, library, and school remain vacant, standing as silent reminders of a war where the value of gold outweighed the value of life.
Attempting to accurately convey life in Kosovo, along with HD, we are utilizing several hidden cameras that allow us to discreetly enter into a foreign war-torn world where the average family is living on less than $200 per month. Despite the economic collapse, and the political instability, Kosovo remains a land full of life, where everyone has a story, and every story has come at a great price. Vision FilmWorks is attempting to remain faithful to these stories, and to the people who have endured incomprehensible odds to tell them.Using Cineform's AspectHD, we are able to edit High Definition footage on the field, running Premiere Pro on Dell Precision Mobile Workstations. Due to constant power outages, the need for ultra mobility, and a tight shooting schedule, we required a solution that would allow us to edit hours of High Definition footage on the field. AspectHD is so efficient, we are able capture HD footage via USB or Firewire to the internal system hard drive on the field, without any external power supply. Cineform has given us the ability to make our HD feature-length film truly mobile, fully operable on batteries, and with no compromise in quality.............
